SAT OCT 6 2012

THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK COVERS NORTHERN…WESTERN…

CENTRAL…AND SOUTHERN OKLAHOMA…AND WESTERN NORTH TEXAS.

.DAY ONE…TODAY AND TONIGHT…

THUNDERSTORM OUTLOOK…

SHOWERS AND AN ISOLATED THUNDERSTORM WILL BE POSSIBLE ACROSS FAR

SOUTHERN OKLAHOMA AND PARTS OF WESTERN NORTH TEXAS. SEVERE

THUNDERSTORMS ARE NOT EXPECTED.

DISCUSSION…

LIGHT SHOWERS HAVE DEVELOPED EARLY THIS MORNING ALONG THE KANSAS

OKLAHOMA BORDER IN RESPONSE TO AN APPROACHING MID LEVEL STORM

SYSTEM. THESE SHOWERS WILL LIKELY PERSIST THROUGH LATE

MORNING AS THE UPPER LEVEL SYSTEM CONTINUES TO MOVE THROUGH THE

REGION. OTHER SHOWERS HAVE REMAINED MAINLY SOUTH OF THE RED RIVER

THIS MORNING OVER PORTIONS OF NORTHERN TEXAS AND FAR SOUTHEAST

OKLAHOMA. A FEW OF THESE HAVE PRODUCED LIGHTNING STRIKES IN THE LAST

FEW HOURS…BUT VERY WEAK INSTABILITY WILL LIMIT THUNDERSTORM

POTENTIAL TODAY. STILL…WIDELY SCATTERED SHOWERS AND PERHAPS A

THUNDERSTORM OR TWO WILL REMAIN POSSIBLE THROUGH NOON.

LATER TODAY…A STRONG COLD FRONT WILL SURGE SOUTHWARD…BRINGING

ANOTHER SHOT OF COLD AIR TO THE REGION. ATOP THIS COLD

AIRMASS…REMNANT INSTABILITY AND MODEST MOISTURE WILL CONTINUE TO

PROMOTE SHOWERS AND MAYBE A THUNDERSTORM OR TWO. IN ANY

CASE…INSTABILITY WILL REMAIN VERY LOW AND SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ARE

NOT EXPECTED THROUGH TONIGHT.

PROBABILITY TABLE…

VALID THROUGH 700 AM CDT SUNDAY OCT 7.

PROBABILITY OF THUNDERSTORMS OCCURRING IN THE

NWS NORMAN COUNTY WARNING AREA…10 PERCENT.

PROBABILITY OF SEVERE STORMS IF STORMS OCCUR…ZERO PERCENT.

OTHER HAZARDOUS WEATHER…

BEHIND THE FRONT…A COLD AND STABLE AIRMASS WILL SETTLE INTO

OKLAHOMA. THIS WILL LEAD TO FALLING TEMPERATURES OVERNIGHT WITH

FREEZING TEMPERATURES EXPECTED ACROSS MUCH OF NORTHERN

OKLAHOMA…AND NEAR FREEZING TEMPERATURES FORECAST OVER MUCH OF

THE REMAINDER OF OKLAHOMA. A FREEZE WARNING HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR THE

OVERNIGHT PERIOD ALONG WITH A FROST ADVISORY WHICH COVERS AREAS NORTH

OF INTERSTATE 40. TAKE STEPS TO PROTECT TENDER VEGETATION FROM

FREEZING OVERNIGHT TEMPERATURES…WHICH MAY FALL INTO THE MID TO

UPPER 20S IN SOME AREAS.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN…SUNDAY THROUGH FRIDAY…

THUNDERSTORM OUTLOOK…

DRY…STABLE…AND UNSEASONABLY COOL AIR WILL INVADE THE REGION

THROUGH MONDAY…PREVENTING SHOWERS AND STORMS FROM DEVELOPING. A

LARGE UPPER STORM SYSTEM WILL MOVE INTO THE PLAINS BY MID

WEEK…WITH CHANCES FOR SHOWERS AND STORMS FROM WEDNESDAY INTO NEXT

WEEKEND. WIDESPREAD SEVERE WEATHER DOES NOT APPEAR LIKELY AT THIS

TIME.

OTHER HAZARDOUS WEATHER…

ANOTHER COLD NIGHT IS FORECAST SUNDAY NIGHT…WITH TEMPERATURES

LIKELY FALLING TO NEAR FREEZING ACROSS PARTS OF THE AREA. WHILE NO

ADVISORIES…WATCHES…OR WARNINGS ARE CURRENTLY IN EFFECT…EXPECT
