…ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY…
IN 1982…AN OUTBREAK OF 12 TORNADOES STRUCK NORTHEAST
OKLAHOMA…SOUTHEAST KANSAS AND WESTERN MISSOURI. THE
TWISTERS KILLED 5 AND INJURED 122. THE WORST TORNADO WAS
AN F3 THAT REACHED ONE THIRD OF A MILE WIDE AND WAS ON
THE GROUND FOR 70 MILES. IT CAUSED $10 MILLION DAMAGE
FROM CRAWFORD COUNTY KANSAS TO ST. CLAIR COUNTY IN WEST
CENTRAL MISSOURI.
