City of Oklahoma issues statment: “Street crews on call for predicted snow”

Street crews will be on standby over the Christmas holiday, ready to respond to snow and sleet should it begin to fall in Oklahoma City.

City bridges and overpasses will be pretreated with a salt brining solution on Christmas Eve if snow or sleet stays in the forecast.  If snow begins to fall, approximately thirty three salt trucks will canvass the City’s snow routes. Crews will work 12-hour shifts, 24 hours a day if needed.  Shifts change at noon and midnight.

Contractors may be hired to help clear streets depending on the severity of the storm.

Salt is in good supply with more than 9000 tons in stock.

Regional snow routes can be viewed at www.okc.gov.  Residents without access to the Internet can call Oklahoma City’s Action Center at 297-2535 and request a map.

Drivers can help crews by keeping a safe distance – about 200 feet – away from salt trucks.
