IN 1987…THE FAMOUS VETERANS DAY SNOWSTORM STRUCK
WASHINGTON D.C. THE STORM WAS A COMPLETE SURPRISE. A
TOTAL OF 11.5 INCHES FELL AT THE AIRPORT. IT CAUGHT
MOTORISTS OFF GUARD…AND CARS WERE STRANDED ON THE
BELTWAY FOR OVER 24 HOURS. THIS STORM LEAD TO THE
DEVELOPMENT OF THE WASHINGTON METROPOLITAN AREA SNOW
PLAN…SO THAT THE CITY COULD BE BETTER PREPARED.
