Monitor the weather closely Saturday

Rick Smith, warning coordination meteorologist with the National Weather Service, Norman Forecast Office, said he sent this on Friday to emergency managers:

Saturday could be a very active severe weather day across much of Oklahoma and western north Texas. Even though it’s October, we’ll have a fairly impressive set up for severe storms, including the possibility of supercells and tornadoes. As usual, it’s not a clear cut situation, and there are several key factors we’ll need to watch. If we have lots of leftover storms tomorrow morning, or if widespread rain and storms develop early in the day, the chances for higher end severe storms (very large hail and tornadoes) will be lower. But, if storms wait to form later in the afternoon and we see more discrete (individual) storms, then the concern for tornadoes will be higher. Either way, I’m guessing we’ll have watches and warnings going on for a good part of the day and into the evening. Too early to nail this down right now, but I would definitely keep a close eye on things, especially during the day tomorrow.”
