112 degrees at Freedom at 3:30 p.m., but 55 to 60 degrees in Alabaster Caverns
Talked with Debra Foale, who leads tours at Alabaster Caverns State Park, a few miles south of Freedom in northwest Oklahoma.
She said the temperature inside the cave is about 55 to 60 degrees.
However, the temperature above ground at the Oklahoma Mesonet station at Freedom has already reached 112 degrees this afternoon.
Foale led the 11 a.m. tour and said that some visitors took their jackets into the cave. But if they put them on they promptly shed the jackets upon exiting, she said.
Foale said she loves her job every day, but going down into the pleasant cave on a day like today is a nice added perk.
