IN 1988…SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS OVER OKLAHOMA PRODUCED HAIL UP TO FOUR
INCHES IN DIAMETER CAUSING $35 MILLION DAMAGE IN SOUTHERN
OKLAHOMA. BASEBALL SIZED HAIL AND 7 INCHES OF RAIN
CAUSED ANOTHER $18 MILLION DOLLARS DAMAGE IN DUNCAN.
IN 1984…THE CAROLINAS TORNADO OUTBREAK OCCURRED.
CONSISTING OF 22 TORNADOES…OF WHICH 7 WERE VIOLENT
F4S…THE OUTBREAK KILLED 57 AND INJURED 1,248. ONE F4
TORNADO THAT CROSSED THE SOUTH CAROLINA NORTH CAROLINA
BORDER…POSSESSED A TRACK 16 MILES LONG…AND AVERAGED
1.2 MILES WIDE. AT ITS PEAK INTENSITY…THE MONSTROUS
TWISTER WAS 2.5 MILES WIDE.
