Looking ahead at heat wave, map, National Weather Service, Norman

Weather Synopsis…The heat will persist today, with afternoon highs
from 102 to 108 and heat indices peaking between 104 and 110. The heat advisory
for our area has been extended through Friday. But some relief is possible
by the weekend. A cold front is moving south through the central Plains;
it is helping to generate widespread showers and thunderstorms over
parts of Kansas and Nebraska this morning. A few storms could
affect northern Oklahoma today through Friday.
Meanwhile, tropical storm Don will move northwestward
from the Gulf of Mexico toward southern Texas.
The main effects of Don will likely remain south of our area,
but clouds and moisture on the edge of the system
could provide a little relief from the extreme heat over the weekend.
