FYI: For those traveling toward north central, northeast and east central Kansas, Thursday into Friday, National Weather Service, Topeka, Kan.
| Expected Weather:A mixture of rain and freezing rain will be possible during
the early afternoon hours on Thursday before mixing with and changing to snow Thursday night. The chance for light snow will end on Friday. At this time, 2 to 4 inches of snow is expected over the area. |
| Areas Affected: All of north central, northeast, and
east central Kansas. |
| Timing: Precipitation will begin during the late morning on Thursday
and continue through the evening…before diminishing on Friday. The precipitation may begin as a mixture of sleet and snow for north central Kansas with freezing rain and/or sleet for northeast and east central Kansas. Changeover to all snow will occur during the late hours on Thursday. |
| Expected Accumulations: Light ice accumulations will be
possible Thursday and Thursday night. There is a potential for two to four inches of snow on Thursday night into early Friday; however this may increase based on the evolution of the storm system. Locally higher amounts are possible depending on the timing of the transition to snow. |
| Wind and Temperatures: Temperatures in the 30s
Thursday will fall into the 20s Thursday night. Gusty north winds of 20 to 30 mph will develop late Thursday night and persist into Friday. |
| Potential Impacts |
| This round of winter weather will be affecting the
area during a period of heavy holiday travel. If the storm system is able to come together over the area, roadways will become slick with hazardous driving conditions as early as noon on Thursday. Some blowing and drifting snow will be possible late Thursday night and Friday. Plan your travel accordingly, and allow extra time should road conditions deteriorate. |

| A strong storm system will emerge from
the Rockies on Thursday, bringing the potential for widespread precipitation to much of the central and southern Plains. A mix of freezing rain, sleet, and snow will be possible across the local area. The storm system will move east of the region during the day on Friday. |
