It's funny that while reading this blog, my mom was sitting right next to me, trying to get someone from her mortgage bank to answer the phone and help her figure out what in the world is going on with her loan agreement! It's been a huge struggle these last years with our home. We've been at risk of losing it two times already due to job loss, and the banks make it extremely difficult to get a hold of. I can honestly see why so many homeowner have chosen to not deal with the banks. They make it so frustrating to get a hold of, they keep you waiting for so long and when they finally answer, "oh I'm sorry, you contacted the wrong department, let me give you the number for it" ...??! ... I have never bought a home before and honestly I am NOT looking forward to it. There is something that seriously needs to be done about all the ambiguity going on within the mortgage system. It's not fair to people like my mom or you who made business with a bank, thinking they would be there to support their customers, and the it turns out they're nowhere to be found.

Hi Jim,
Your analysis and misfortunes in recently obtaining a mortgage is appalling, to say the least. Your story makes me grateful, once again, for the mortgage we just closed on with Navy Federal Credit Union. Yes, there was the last-minute flurry, but in the end, we got money back from our escrow, rather than paying the usual settlement costs.

I'll keep reading your blog, Jim. You've got an intriguing approach to many relevant topics.

All the best,
Penny
