The significance and importance of Web 2.0 media can’t be understated. It’s great to read about new ways that the military is using the technology. As a reporter I recently did a story about a mom who is carrying around a cardboard cutout of her son who is currently deployed. Each place she goes she takes a picture with it and posts it on Facebook with a funny caption below. In turn the soldier is able to read the adventures his mom is having, and it’s helping both he and his mom as they are apart.

Mass Comm

Being overseas away from everyone and everything you’ve ever known is scary. I can only imagine how that could be. On top of that, being confined to a certain area and being told what to do can be a bit miserable. I know that web provides a little bit of an outlet for these soldiers and I’m glad that have that.

This post was somewhat enlightening as it illustrated how the Internet does not have to be entirely used for evil purposes. What I found intriguing was your statement: “Often, however, boredom is the toughest enemy for soldiers on deployment…Too much time to think about who they haven’t seen for a very long time.” Besides, Web 2.0, what additional things can be done to reduce this boredom for soldiers on deployment?

What a great way to acknowledge our veterans this year. I work for Project: Hollywood Cares which is actually partnering with SAG (Screen Actors Guild) this holiday season to buy calling cards for the troops overseas. During the year we send libraries of dvds, television shows, and other products from the Academy. Because we are located in Studio City on the CBS Lot there are a lot of opportunities to send supplies to the troops- to keep them from being bored and to keep them connected to whats going on at home.

i think this is great for soldiers over seas. people are made to intreact with each other and wen that is deprive you cant blame the soldiers from going a little crazy. this communication access for them is a great idea and to see them even find love connections is just great for the all around process for being a soldiers.
