Ya'll don't seriously think that Russell doesn't need to improve his decision making, passing and team play, especially when he has the ball in his hands so much of the time?
I never said that he isn't an awesome scorer and incredible athlete that I am thrilled plays for OKC. In order for the Thunder to take the next step and have a chance to win the title, I think Russell needs to make better decisions and pass the ball more to get EVERYONE involved in the offense. I watch EVERY Thunder game and it amazes me that it is so obvious that when the team moves the ball and play 5 on 5 instead of 2 on 5, that they are much better and more successful. When we get in the 4th quarter and Russell and KD only pass the ball to each other we struggle big time. Everybody knows that, yet nobody in charge seems to want to make the stars unhappy and change it. Ya'll know that it cost us a shot at the championship last year and if it doesn't change it will cost us any chance at the title this year.

Y'all are hilarious.Average 13 assists?Half of the stuff on here is not even worth dignifying but, yes,Russell Westbrook had a bad game.Yes he has a polarizing style of play.He is also a great player in his wn right. You don't get the way he plays, that's fine.Look at our record. Its not in spite of himIts because of him.We have a mismatch at point guard virtually every game.As far as the pass more sentiments, listen to yourself.Pass to who?KD got what,28 shots last night?Perk scored above his average,Serge right under.Thabo was off, understandably,he was using all f his energy to chase Kobe.Had a bad game, get over it.

Thunder4fan -- well, if we are wishing, I want him to shoot 100% from the field, average 20 assists per game, 10 blocks, and 5 steals.
You acknowledge that "he is often thought to be one of the very best" and then state "why not expect him to play like it." Don't you think he is "often thought to be one of the best" because of how he is playing? It sure isn't his good looks and fashion sense that are getting him the PG compliments.
As for Popovich--Westbrook is sometimes compared to Parker . . . .
I agree he is not helpful when he does not get back on D -- but he has made strides there. I agree that, sometimes his shot selection seems frustrating. But that is true for ust about every player in the league. Overall, he is a remarkable PG in this league and I wish we would appreciate what we actually do have, more.
He was a SG until the NBA, and has now turned into a remarkable PG. And, I have seen improvement--and great strides in his decision-making each year. But, to demand 13 assists per game this year when league best is 11 seems unrealistic to me. And, a failure to recognize some of the other aspects of his game that make him so valuable.

Yes I do want him to average more assists per game than any other point guard. He is often thought to be one of the very best, why not expect him to play like it. With Kevin Durant being the guy he passes to about 90% of the time, I would expect that he should average at least double figures in assists. Do you believe Russell could get away with playing the way he does if he was playing for Popovich? I think not and it would help Russell tremendously. I think it's great that he scores a lot on most nights, but I believe the TEAM would be better, if he altered his decision making and didn't rely on getting fouls called when he drives into 4 defensive players. Also, I would like to see him run back on defense rather than stand there complaining to the official when he makes a horrible play!!!

Thunder4fan - you want Westbrook to average more than two assists per game MORE than ANY point guard in the league currently averages?

I sometimes wonder if enough OKC fans appreciate Westbrook. Westbrook is number 5 (on NBA stats) leading in assists this year at 8.4 per game. Leader is Rajon (11.1) second is Chris Paul (at 9.7); third Greivis Vasquez (9.2 and fourth Jrue Holiday (8.9). As for longevity--Westbrook has not missed a game since he entered the league. Chris Paul, a phenomenal PG has missed several games.

Do I at times cringe when he shoots. Yes. (See above post regarding). But lets appreciate what we do have. One of the most talented and athletic Point Guards (yes, PG) in the league. Who, when he is on, is unstoppable.

[...] Darnell Mayberry: “I would have liked to have seen Durant stay on Bryant in the home stretch. Kobe hit one jumper on Durant and had two assists while Durant checked him before Thabo returned. But maybe KD’s length could have had an impact on Kobe. Not only did Thabo not far any better (and maybe even worse), but the Thunder didn’t have any scorers to turn to after Brooks replaced Kevin Martin with Sefolosha. Westbrook and Durant couldn’t buy a bucket, combining to go 4-for-12 in the fourth, and no one else on the court for the Thunder was a threat.” [...]

I was as po'd after last nights game as any, ever.Especially at the end when Kobe either made or assisted in every score they made. The two times he positioned himself on the baseline within five feet of the basket and passed to Gasol for a dunk,I completely lost it because of the other times, in other games,in the final seconds, for the win.If we were prepared for anything defensively it should be that. But after sleeping on it and reading the critical comments here I have a different perspective. It's like when have bad game,if you boil down the criticism, what people are saying is this; Russell knows before he shoots it whether or not it's going in in and he should only shoot ones he knows beforehand are going in and shouldn't shoot shots that he knows beforehand aren't going in.If he misses I few in a row he should pass it to guys he knows beforehand are going to make it.Coach Brooks should stop running plays he knows beforehand aren't going to work and only run plays he knows beforehand are going to work.He should substitute out guys he knows beforehand aren't going keep the opponent from scoring or turning us over and replace them with someone he knows beforehand will. And lastly, the players and coachs should only do things that they know beforehand will allow us to score more points than the opponent. But the players and coaches point of view is....Lets do the things that have allowed us to be so successful up to now while doing everything we can to get better.(could they BE any more illogical) Wouldn't it be cool if the people that spit all this hateful criticism had video's of themselves doing their job that we could watch and comment on and on the bad days we could see if we could blast them so much that they lose their jobs.Wouldn't that be fun? No,not really. How about if the five that are the most critical could play Russell five on one without ref's.Oh yeah!
