It can’t turn out much worse than feeding Perk down there as they did so often last season to start the game (the Perk Punt play as it came to be called). And if he CAN get it and become effective on the low block, well, that’d would be a huge deal for this team.

It takes footwork, balance, timing, patience, strength and court awareness among many other things to be successful on the block. Shaq didn’t have much of a low post arsenal to go to. He only had a move or two and a counter. But he bullied defenders down there. Dwight Howard doesn’t have many moves at all. Those are the best two big men of the past 20 years. That should tell you all you need to know about why guys like Kendrick Perkins, Cole Aldrich, Hasheem Thabeet, Daniel Orton, Serge Ibaka and many, many others are slow to develop in that area. -DM-
