Johnnie, it would be a risk on his part. If he got injured before signing, the Thunder wouldn’t have any obligation to sign him. If he was awesome in those first few games, the Thunder still wouldn’t be likely to change the contract that has been agreed upon. So, no, it wouldn’t necessarily be wise. But I still think he should do it. You can’t worry about the possibility of injury. If he cares about improving and loves the game he’ll be playing somewhere this summer anyway. Might as well do it in a structured environment. -DM-

Darnell, would it be wise for Thabeet to play as a free agent for the Thunder for the first few days of the Summer League until he can then sign his OKC contract and then play as a member of the Thunder the last few days of the League?

The free agency moratorium won’t be lifted until July 11…Summer League starts July 9. It doesn’t look likely that Thabeet will be in Orlando but for one or two games, if at all.

Chuck, there is no such rule. Amar’e Stoudemire played in 2006 while rehabbing an injury. Portland’s Wes Matthews has said he intends on playing this year. -DM-

I thought only rookies to be or rookies that just finished their first year were allowed to play in summer league. Are there any exceptions to this rule for minutes played?
