The NBA, the NFL, MLB, these organizations ought to stand for something. Once upon a time players here served as role models. They do a lot of good in the communities where they serve, but a few bad apples can spoil the whole thing. I'm not saying they have to be Boy Scouts, but be good sports. When Artest was involved in the 2004 incident with fans, it gave all of pro basketball a black eye. When players go into the stands to fight fans, when players rare back and chop at other players heads with elbows, when they intentionally undercut other players, or consistently do things which undermine the game, then the NBA has to step up and say, "The NBA is larger than any one individual. We hereby banish this player for the good of all our players, our fans, and our image in the communities we represent." I don't buy that, 'oh, it wasn't that bad,' or 'it's part of my culture'. Life in the streets can be tough, and NBA basketball can be rough, but if you allow an 'anything goes' attitude to prevail, you will soon find yourself wishing you hadn't.

Ron Artest cannot control himself and it is time for the NBA to face that. Here is a player that has already been suspended more than 10 times in his career and still he pulls vicious acts like we saw him do Sunday. It's time, enough is enough, no more chances, have a nice life Artest, but NOT as a player in the NBA.

I am unable to muster much of a defense of Wade and his intentional hard foul on Kobe which resulted in broken nose. I will, however, note one big distinction. Wade acted within the course of the play of the game, and although it seemed obvious that he did intend to foul Kobe, intentional fouls are not absolutely flagrant and not absolutely condemned when they are in the course of the game and the intent of the player is to stop the opposing player from scoring. The difference here--the intentional blow was delivered when the game was not "in play." Even if we give him the benefit of the doubt, and presume that Artest did not intend a specific injury from the thrown elbow--he did intentionally throw an elbow, while no game was "in play," and, he should have stringent consequences from his actions.

From a Laker fan abroad watching the game: I get it. What Ron Artest did was intentional and stupid no matter if he was pumped up after making a difficult play or not. Intentional? Yes. Premeditated? No. By that one play, Artest gave up what gains he has been making in the last several years and certainly in the last seven games. I do believe he deserves a suspension---probably the first two rounds of the playoffs given that the Lakers may meet the Thunder in the second round. But I cannot help equate Artest's actions with the flagrant foul that D-Wade made on Kobe Bryant during the All Star game (!) breaking his nose and giving Bryant a concussion in the one single play. That was as flagrant as it can be given that there are NO stakes in an All Star game. That flagrant foul did not result in any penalty whatsoever. Commissioner Stern has to take a step back from the emotion of the game, the time of the season, and the personnel involved before he makes a decision on penalties.

I detest Artest. Wouldn't bother me if we never saw him again on an NBA court, this year or forever. If that blow would have landed on his eye, he might have lost it. That was a potentially letal blow he gave Harden. Physical play is fine with me, but crap like he pulled ranks up there with Suh's stomp on a downed NFL player, or Tyson's chop on Holyfield's ear.

does anyone see a pattern starting to develop here for the Lakers? Last year, JJ Barea was takin it to the lakers, what happens, they try to take him out of the game. I believe this is what happened with harden. Harden was playing some good ball and scoring on the Lakers and it was time to take him out. It's a sad day for the Lakers when they can't rely on their talent alone to win games. They have to rely on preferrential calls and violence to win a game. (anyone see Kobe out there calling fouls for officials?) Just proves to me the Lakers are "losing it" and they're only pushing themselves down to the level of the gutter.
