J.G., one more thing. Rohde informs me that Brooks, however, is not guaranteed to be coach just yet. The Clippers still can get to 19-8 (.703) while the Thunder could fall to 20-9 (.690). That would make Del Negro coach of the West. -DM-

The Riley Rule would dictate that Brooks has, quite literally, been guaranteed to be the coach of the All-Star game since the Clippers can’t match the Thunder’s win percentage and Popovich can’t coach the All Star game again this season as he coached it last year.

Slim, the coaches from each conference pick the reserves for that conference. A coach can’t vote for his own players.

One wonders if coaching the All-Stars is a reward or what. I mean, with the grinding schedule the Thunder has been going on, one might think a couple of days break would be a bigger reward than going back to work again. But he’s a great coach and he deserves some accolades. It will look good on his resume, I assume. But it isn’t the prize I think he particularly wants the most. I think he wants to wear a ring and bring home a banner to OKC.
