“Something has gotten into Westbrook over the last week and a half to two weeks. He’s playing much more under control and taking better shots and getting teammates involved and, well, he’s doing everything. You can only hope he keeps it up.”

- Yeah, he has his contract extension in about 2 weeks.

I hope he gets it, but just as importantly they need to lock Harden down too.

[...] Darnell Mayberry: “Keep an eye on Harden’s production on the road. He struggled with his shooting away from home last season, and he looks to be doing the same thus far this year. The next two doormat of opponents might be just what Harden needs.” Share: [...]

He subbed Perk out because he didn’t want him to get fouled and shoot free throws. The ovation was secondary.

Dave, I’m not so sure about that. There was only six seconds left in the game and the Thunder was ahead by nine. It wasn’t exactly in doubt at that point. Besides, on two occasions this season, Perk has held onto the ball in the final seconds and made all four free throws to help ice the game. My gut says it was more about giving him that moment. Brooks is a class act. -DM-

[...] Darnell Mayberry’s notebook from that game alerted me to a James Harden trend: he’s much worse in away games. Check the splits — he’s averaging 19.1 PPG at home, 13.9 on the road. He plays about the same amount of minutes and takes about the same amount of shots, but he is shooting 52.8% at home and 37.7% on the road. His assists go down from 4.3 to 2.4 when away from home, too. Harden is having a tremendous year; imagine if he becomes a more consistent road performer. [...]

Good column, Darnell. Dang we say that about you an awful lot. But when you bring your A game, that’s how it works.

I’d agree about why Brooks took Perkins out there at the end. That’s what I thought at the time in fact, and I thought it was a great gesture on Brooks’ part.

One thing you have to say about Brooks, he sails a steady course. Some folks might question how he goes about things…..wait, did I say might? But it’s just flat hard to argue with results. It’s like someone jawing at an opponent near the end of a game where their team is getting whomped, and the other guy responds by just pointing at the scoreboard. That’s kind of what I’ve started doing where Brooks is concerned. Folks can say whatever they want about Brooks. He gets it done. He also knows his players, and they respond to him.

I like me some Scott Brooks coaching the Thunder.
