Leah, not having Cook definitely didn't help. He's presence alone would have made the Mavs play a little different defensively because of his shooting ability. As we've seen in the past, when the Thunder doesn't have a pure shooter like Cook out there to keep defenses from packing the paint and loading up on KD and Russ, the Thunder struggles offensively. Having said that, the biggest problem in my eyes from the second quarter on was poor defense. Cook couldn't have changed that. -DM-

[...] Darnell Mayberry: “Brooks took the ball out of Westbrook’s hands throughout the game tonight. Durant was bringing it up, although that’s become commonplace. Harden handled the point at times. And Maynor was the lead guard in that small ball lineup. Anybody see anything wrong with doing that more often? Aside from fostering his long term development, I’m not sure why the Thunder keeps it in Westbrook’s hands so much even when he’s struggling.” [...]

I'd rather them lose to the mavs than the blazers tonight. You gotta win your division first.

Also, they were going to lose at some point, I'd rather it be to the defending champs even though they're not playing great than to a team we should beat.

I'll be honest, I was so mad at how bad they were playing I turned it off during the beginning of the 4th. I knew they had no chance of winning playing that way.

How much do you think DCook being out hurt the team?

I saw the Mav-OKC game which OKC lost and it was clearly the starting five were not playing well, specially Westbrook. Westbrook is the point guard and his job is to pass the ball first and shoot later, but its the other way around. If this is the case, he should be the shooting guard and let Harden be the point guard. Besides, Westbrook is after only one thing, that is to score more than Durant and OKC will not win that route!

Look at the assist on that game, OKC had only 12 assists against the Mav's 21. The OKC also did not shoot the ball well, the first culprit is again the "number ONE point guard of the NBA', Westbrook?
Another observation is Ibaka's shooting from the outside that makes the rebounding absence in the middle when he shoots from afar. True the 3 point shooting by Cook was surely missing, but there should be others to bank on rather than depend on only one or two persons on scoring.
I also saw that their defense was missing, specially the one on Dirk, who was always able to shoot the ball uncontested. That is why he made his shots.
I noticed that Westbrook wants to rebound the ball more than guarding his assigned man. Due to the fact that he wants the ball more time in his hands than other players and he holds the ball in their court longer than passing it right away to offset the other teams defense!
