“Shooting fouls will now be called only if contact occurs after the player has begun his shooting motion and not after he has initiated his leap”

This is from the article. I don’t know how directly it draws from the new rules but it seems to be effectively addressing the “continuation” play that two of you have commented on. The big question is how they apply it to the likes of players who are able to jump into the lane, get hacked, but then bring the ball up to the rim for a layup (Jordan was great at this). Is the jump his shooting motion? According to the wording above, the shooting motion wouldn’t really begin until after the foul.

Completely agree with ben, I’ve never been a fan of the “continuation” call on fouls

Each person shoots differently. Hope the refs know what is/isn’t part of each and every individuals normal shooting motion. Will some of the crazy shots Dirk puts up still count since they’re not normal shooting motions?

I don’t like the rip move, but why do they choose to get rid of it when our best player is a master of it?

If they discontinue the ‘rip’ move then they should discontinue the ‘continuation of play’ calls. Fair, make it so.
