Kevin has every right to love and support the school he played for. He doesn't have to love or even like OU. The tweet that really started this was the one where he was pulling for Florida to beat OU. He has no affiliation to FL so he was basically just hating on OU. In the public eye, like he is, he should use some common sense and support his school without dissing OU. Maybe he could just not say anything if he can't say something - that's what my Mom always taught me. And I applaud Tony Jefferson for standing up for OU!

I totally agree with Tim. No one expects him to stop disliking Ou and change his allegiance. I totally understand why he dislikes Ou, that's not the issue. The issue is respect. Respect your fans. The Ou alumni, fans, and players represent and support the Thunder and KD. He needs to be appreciative of that and quit publicly taunting Sooner Nation and dissing the city.

Darnell,

You've missed the point on Durant dissin' OU. Of course I wouldn't expect him to be someone he's not; have him root for the Sooners, when he's a little horn...

However, at the same time, he doesn't need to go out of his way and taunt OU fans, and put those queer steer horn signs up in our face.

Freedom of speech / expression, sure all for it!

Rub it in OU fan's faces, not cool!

Wait this article is about two guys saying stuff they shouldn't. Jefferson shouldn't be bothered by Durant's comments because who actually knows who is better until the season is over.? no one. And Durant shouldn't be so quick to talk about that stuff, because he will lose popularity. Also Chuck, I grew up in Oklahoma and people like Oklahoma because they are good but also because they were the first school. They have a good reputation and they aren't known as a party school either. Would Oklahoma want to be known as the Cowboys who study Ag and drink alot? And what actually suggest Oklahoma is not big time as host of the Thunder? They sell alot of seats and they still like the Sooners. Obviously OSU isnt as big there because there arent as many of them in the news or in the stands. And OU gets ripped by the media all the time. Locally and nationally. You cant equate College fans to NBA fans. In every state the loyalty is to college teams more than the pros because many people went to those schools. Professional sports is about making money, and dont you think Oklahoma City has helped the Thunder be better? Have you been to a Thunder Game? an OU game? an OSU game? If you havent then you should they are totally different feels and atmospheres. Oklahoma will always support a Tony Jefferson who plays football for free over KD who makes millions. And if you have moved into the state of course you wouldnt understand the loyalty because its different than a "big market city". I think the Thunder playing pretty darn well in the playoffs is good. They exceeded expectations and Durant was part of it. Now he needs to grow up and not use the media to attract more attention to him. Thats why we loved KD in the first place was his humility. Maybe there is something to be said about a not "big time" market and city.

Having lived in major pro sports markets it was a big shock moving back here and realizing Oklahoma hadn't matured much over the years. OKC wants to become a big league city, and getting the Thunder goes a long way, but the idea OU fans have that being a Sooner fan is synonymous with being an Okie is absurd. First off Mayberry has no idea how exaggerated his statement is that a "good majority" of fans here cheer for OU. If it's 60-40 OU vs OSU I'd be very surprised. Are there more OU fans? Sure. Why? Because its easy to pull for OU, they win a lot. They couldn't fill the stadium John Blake's last two yrs so how many are die hard? My point is maybe half of the total population of less than 4 million are true blue Sooner fans. Until the Thunder came along Sooner football was the State's pro franchise but not anymore. So grow up and lost the thin skin. In bigger markets the local media rips the local pro teams up and down every day. That's what the media is supposed to do, give critique. If an OKC sports guy or Oklahoman writer wrote about OU like big market media does the OU fandom would march on the station and call for a lynching. My point is, if you want to be big time get over the small town parochial attitude that nobody can live here and by critical of the local teams. Especially a pro athlete that played for the arch rival? Are you kidding me? The fact that he is getting ripped is like a big neon sign saying look at Oklahoma, we're still ignorant bumpkins!

It's fine for him to voice his opinion, no problem there. But he should get plenty of it back in return. I have no problem with it just as long as he doesn't go out and start trashing the fans of either team. True fans of OU know a texass horn will never root for the Sooners and definitely vice versa.
