It is well known in the strategy - developed by long hours of kill or be killed basketball - on the courts such as Rucker, in New York,St. Johns in Bed - Sty, Baker city in Philly, that the game isn't over until it's over or in more professional arenas: it's over when the fat lady sings. All great players have the answer to the following question tattooed in their brains. " How do you kill an ant?"
Monday night ,behind by two games to one, playing at home before over twenty thousand - loyal and fanatical - blue shirt wearing fans, the Oklahoma Thunder basket ball team, led by two , young, potentially great players, who underestimated the will - the elite fans call it intestinal fortitude - of a long denied team of professional players determined to win or leave it all on the floor. Over and over, Westbrook and Durant have read and heard how great they " already are", without actually winning a real championship in college or the pro's, it's just a matter of getting the right supporting cast and everything will automatically fall into place, they were probaly told. However, along with that mixture, someone should have sprinkled in a little meltdown prventative. Moreover, there's a quality that most great players like ' Bill Russell, Jordan,Bird and Majic had called tenacity and another esoterically quality that they exhibited in the last minutes of tight games: " give me the ball, I got this" Long denied Dallas, on the other hand, led by an owner, who would give his right arm to suite up, and three old , forty eiht minute playing veterans: named Kid, Terry, and Dirk, who had suffered through some heart breaking losses in the past, came prepared for war. With five minutes left in game three, it looked as if youth was superseding experience and that Dallas had been " run and gunned" into the floor. No question! it looked like the old boys had run out of fuel. But, the K,D,andT, quick strike force was just gassing up for a final strike - while the "thunder" was celebrating prematurely. And don't forget the Key Word: War. On the sideline, during time out, most fans didn't notice Dirk making a call to his home boy from Germany: Dr. Von Braun - the original , long range missile man - was alleged to have intructed Dirk on off balance trajectory, precision bombing from outside of the three point perimeter and elevating over the defenses" flax while shooting or dropping bombs.
But with such an importantgame on the , it all boiled down to one athletic commandment. AS Westbrook walked by, I hollered energetically to him " how do you kill an ANT? He looked up at me with a blank stare, seemingly lost for words, " u --gh what." Seconds later, Kidd rushed pass us, fists balled up, face grimacing ready for a fight. Hey Kidd, "know how to kill an Ant?" But before he could answer, his teammates, Terry and Dirk screamed at us emotionally, in unison:" Bro. YOU kill AN ANT WITH A SLEDGE HAMMER."

Cut Westbrook's minutes by 3-5 minutes per game, cut his shots by 5 or more, take the ball out of his hand 10 more
times and gave it mostly to Harden and the team will
change. Probably for the better. Let him be exactly as
he is now and it probably won't change for the better.

Brooks made way too many coaching mistakes repeatedly.
I don't think they win the title with him. Maybe despite him, but I doubt it.

Presti let Westbrook and Brooks do some harmful stuff for too often and for too long. A big blemish on his generally good record. They really could be headed to the finals with one more win against a very good but beatable team but Westbrook and Brooks messed up too much. They were not the only ones who messed up but they were the biggest ones.

[...] Darnell Mayberry: “Here’s something I find sort of contradictory. The Thunder takes a great deal of pride in having one of the new-age hybrid point guards in Russell Westbrook. But the team then tries to make him play a more traditional point guard’s game by bringing the ball up on most possessions and initiating a set. It makes no sense. If he’s a true hybrid point guard, let him be a hybrid. Don’t be afraid to take the ball out of his hands sometimes and allow someone else to put pressure on the D. I realize much of this year’s insistence was about having Westbrook learn and grow at the position. But the time has come to utilize the entire team’s strengths, not just Westbrook’s.” [...]

Good season Thunder!!!

I must say that I am excited about the future for the Thunder.

Darnell... as far as next year goes, do you think we are looking at virtually the same line up?

It looks like everyone is locked in except Nate, Nazr, Royal, and Daequan. Your thoughts?
