OKC fans do have plenty to celebrate. The thunder are a good team and they have given plenty for the city to rave about.

I have to say though that this article is a definite fan knee jerk reaction to the "success" of the Thunder! Now let me make my point clear. I live in Dallas and I can remember fans doing the same thing for Dallas after we beat our first playoff series since the 80's against Utah. Fans were showing up at the airport even after they lost.

I think some of those fans are sincere and some is due I think OKC being the main professional theme in the city. Also the quick success of OKC and Kevin Durant is enough to make our mouths open wider than the distance between Dallas-OKCity, however the real test of your fans will be after they have a loosing season. Once you win some fans continue to expect that and loosing puts a sour taste in their mouths. Let the team continue to lose or wait until one of your good players is dealt away in a trade. Or don't let a player get caught in a wild off the court scandal to cause shame on the organization??? This changes some fans feelings for their team and after all of this they slowly stop showing up

down here in Dallas we have other professional teams so the fan enthusiasm is split. OKC is a unique situation because the whole town can support that one professional team. I'm not saying OKC fans are not unique and I thinkit is a good thing that they are showing up to support their team but once the Mojo is gone some fans turn into "fair weather" fans!

May the best team win the series!

People, one of the reasons why fans show up at the airport is because the accessibility of the airport. Traffic is not an issue in OKC like it is in other (larger) NBA cities, nor is the airport huge and difficult to access. That, combined with the "college sports" mentality of the fine folks of Oklahoma, result in the fan frenzy.

Although I know Royce got a lot of the fans together for the first airport meeting, it was even more organic than that. I am a big fan of the Daily Thunder, but not a regular reader there. A group of us were watching the clinch game last year and decided we should go to the airport independently. We found a ticket rep to give us information on their arrival and got a group of our friends together to go. So, while Royce should definitely be given credit, I think Thunder fans in general are credit-worthy.
