[...] Love what Darnell Mayberry said in his notes: “I hope everyone can appreciate the growth Durant is undergoing right before our eyes. Two years ago, he would have gone 6-21 against a team like the Heat. And he probably wouldn’t have done anything on the glass or to make his teammates better. But tonight, he took another step on his journey to stardom. His final line: 29 points on 12-for-21 shooting with seven rebounds, six assists, one steal, one block and only one turnover. Not shown is his phenomenal defense on LeBron. Two years ago, James would have had Durant’s stat line from tonight. And it would have come in three quarters because he probably wouldn’t have needed to play the fourth. The gap is closing and before we know it, Durant just might be the league’s best player.” [...]

@tulsandn - You don't bring perimeter defensive guys off the bench.
I know a lot of people love Thabo but to me Thabo needs to become the 6th man, defensive Zen Master coming off the bench, as a starter he allows the opponents to play 5 on 4 against the Thunder offense....

KD drives & who can he kick it out to ???? Russ drives, KD doubled, who can he kick it out to ???? Thabo even looks scared to shoot the ball, Thabo is best when he drives, but so is Russ, KD is great driving into the lane but all those guys driving & throw in PERKINS & SERGE playing in the big man area, it gets CROWDED inside that lane....

James Harden or Daequan Cook would have a field day playing alongside KD, Russ, SERGE & Kendrick Perkins....

How often do you hear media talk about this team or that team needing that "missing piece?" With the Thunder, it was always that they needed a shooter and a defensive presence inside. It's still a small sample size, but I think you can say the Thunder has found both.

I don't know if Harden found a batch of pills like the guy has in "Limitless," but he's played great since the break. I love watching Stephan Curry as much as anyone, but the last month has made those "we should have" arguments a thing of the past.

And anyone who can't see the impact Perkins has had is blind. Forget the improved defensive effort: I think I've seen more scowls on Russ' and KD's faces these last three weeks than I did the last two-and-a-half seasons. I think you also have to give Nazr some credit. Can't wait to see Monday's article.

@Darnell
Great four-quarter defensive effort, and the only knock on the offense was the inability to make a basket after an offensive rebound. I recall several missed tips and putbacks. The Thunder's generally pretty good at the rim, and those misses drove the shooting percentage down a bunch.

Great point about the spacing with shooters in the game. You wanna know where that's really hurt the Thunder this year? The starting five. It's been a few weeks since I saw the numbers, but at the time, our starting five was the 26th least productive starting lineup in the league. And that was with two All-Stars. I personally like Sefalosha, and hope these last two games show that he's getting his defensive chops back, but his lack of offense causes huge spacing problems for Westbrook and Durant.
