Darnell, nice touch on the link to Shawn Kemp’s dunk on Alton Lister. I laughed really hard when I saw that.

[...] Darnell Mayberry: “The tandem of Perkins and Ibaka is every bit as good as we thought it could be. And there is a lot of room for growth there. Granted, it’s only one game against the Wizards. But the makings of a fantastic frontcourt was on display tonight. Perkins’ low-post defense coupled with Ibaka’s shot-blocking is going to give a lot of teams trouble. That duo will have a lot to learn together, but the resistance at the rim just got 120 times better.” [...]

Perkins shows why he becomes only the 4th legitimate center in franchise history after Tom Burleson (helped lead the team to their 1st playoffs), Marvin Webster (all the way to the NBA Finals) and its’ best center, Jack Sikma (7 All-Star games; 6 playoffs in 9 years).

Bottom line. . . its hard to find a center.

@Leapin’ Lee
Isn’t that the truth? Loom at all the money Dallas has thrown at people over the years trying to find one. I loved that one Perk’s first play, he forced his man so far out in the paint that his shot didn’t even draw iron.

Just think, KD & Russ, afterthoughts….

32 pts in 29 minutes, 18 points & 12 assists, afterthoughts….

[...] Mayberry’s Thunder Rumblings notebook-style column is always good, and today he takes on Kendrick Perkins’ first game with the Thunder – and wonders if perhaps Daequan Cook is playing his way into a semi-permanent rotation [...]

Martz, on Perkins’ first play….my thoughts exactly. It was the guy said to himself, whoops, that Kendrick Perkins. Think I’ll stop right about here and try a jumpshot.

Darnell, you ought to get paid to cover this team. Oh, wait.

Interesting point about a possibly expanded rotation. Brooks may feel like he needs to do that, especially the way Cook is playing. How do you keep him on the bench? But Brooks has a really nice problem right now in how many different options he has available to him.

As for Ibaka, goodness sakes. It’s like he knows he’s free to roam around and swat at things, with Perkins back there guarding the fort. He’s rather good at that swatting thing.

Don’t want to get too excited yet, with the Wizards not being a great measuring stick, but earlier in the season OKC often played to the opponent’s level for most of a game. Not against the Cavs or Wizards they didn’t though. Hope it’s a sign of things to come. And with the team at full strength now, tomorrow night against Los Heat should be a good popcorn game.

[...] Kendrick Perkins Plays, Thunder Waxes Wizards Thunder coach Scott Brooks gave us our first glimpse of how he'll use his big men with Perkins in the lineup. He subbed in Nick Collison as the first big off the bench with 5:07 left in the first, inserting him for Perkins. [...]
