Kendrick Perkins Inks Extension With Thunder
The Oklahoma City Thunder has agreed to terms on a contract extension for Kendrick Perkins, the 6-foot-10 center acquired via trade with Boston last Thursday, The Oklahoman has learned.
Terms of the deal were not immediately known, but Perkins is eligible for a four-year extension. Perkins earlier this season had turned down a four-year offer worth approximately $22 million from the Celtics.
With the two sides agreeing to a deal now, the risk of Perkins leaving the Thunder as an unrestricted free agent this summer has been removed.
Perkins said in his introductory press conference Saturday that he wanted to be in Oklahoma City for “the long haul.”
“I hope I can be here,” Perkins said. “I (want to) be here. I couldn’t find a better situation for myself. I really want to be here. It’s just a great organization.”

Well, I am pleasantly surprised!!! This is great! I love perk. He is just so tough and loyal and okc fans will love him! I’m gonna thoroughly enjoy going to thunder games and watching big perk do some work with ibaka. I think perk learned a lot from Garnett and he can really be a good defensive role model to ibaka in helping him master his defense and gain some toughness and edge. I’m not too worried about perks knees. He is only 26 and we have some great doctors down here in oklahoma, as surprising as that may be. Brooks and the thunder doctors are smart and will protect perks knees and give him the best physical therapy and conditioning available. Durant Westbrook and perk!!!! Wow! We are in got some serious NBA ballin in okc. Thunder up!

As a Celtics fan I think you guys are going to absolutely love Perk – and what a great deal you made with the contract extention! Signing that extention shows you what kind of person Kendrick is. He would have made a lot more on the open market but he is ready to invest his heart and soul in Oklahoma. And the man has a hell of a big heart and an extremely good soul. I’ll follow Perk for the rest of his career and forever miss and adore him.
