The rules to seed are as follows. You can win your division and be the 4th seed.

The team that has the best record in each of the three divisions in each conference is declared division champion. The three champions, and the one other team in the conference with the best record are seeded one through four by their records. This guarantees that the division champions will be no lower than fourth seed, and also ensures that a conference's two best teams (by record) are ranked as the top two.

Someone needs to tell Jenni that the winner of the NW division automatically gets a top 3 seed. So, if the Thunder outlast the Jazz, as she predicts, they'll qualify for no worse than the 3 seed.

It will be a fight, but I'll say they hang on to the 3 seed, just ahead of Utah at the 4. But, it's a pretty big gap between the top two (Spurs and Lakers, not necessarily in that order), and 3-8.

That said, given where this team was just two years ago and the lack of any real major roster shakeup, the fact that they are in serious contention for home court in the first round of the playoffs already is quite a story. They're the exception to the rule in several ways, as Darnell points out.

That's part of the reason why we're also a fortunate fan base in several ways. The team has been a boon for this city, and the reverse is also true. It's been a good match.

Don't care what seed we are, except that
1. we make it into the playoffs
2. Lakers aren't our first round opponent.

Other than that . . . we were talking about this the other day and consensus in our family is a four or five, unless drastic roster and lineup changes happen.
