KD, Westbrook, Green=Kobe, LeBron, Wade?
Get used to seeing headlines like this over the next two weeks.
Maybe even through mid-September.
The Thunder’s Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and Jeff Green could become one of the biggest basketball stories the rest of this summer while competing for Team USA, which opens its 2010 training schedule next week in Las Vegas in preparation for the FIBA World Championship.
With all 12 members of the 2008 U.S. gold medalist team opting out of this summer’s games because of injuries, contract matters or personal reasons, OKC’s trio figures to emerge as the biggest torch bearers. And Kevin Durant stands as the most likely face of Team USA during the World Championship, which will be held from Aug. 28-Sept. 12 in Instanbul, Turkey.
Without Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and Dwyane Wade on the roster, the web site Interbasket.net has identified OKC’s threesome as the team’s potential pillars.
“The three could form the core of the team with Durant as one of the most, if not the most dangerous offensive player to take the court during the tournament,” wrote Stuart Leung.
Get ready for the national and international spotlight to shine bright on Oklahoma City.

[...] Interbasket.net says KD, Russ and Uncle Jeff could be the USA’s Big 3: “American players that have accepted an invitation and hoping to make the roster are 21-year old Kevin Durant, 21-year old Russell Westbrook and the 23-year old Jeff Green; teammates on the up-and-coming Oklahoma City Thunder. The three could form the core of the team with Durant as one of the most, if not the most dangerous offensive player to take the court during the tournament.” (via Thunder Rumblings) [...]
