Will LeBron Debut Against The Thunder?

ORLANDO, Fla. — Could the Miami Heat’s new “Trifecta” debut against the Oklahoma City Thunder?

It’s possible.

Well, for the preseason.

The Thunder will face the Heat (see why folks hate weather-related nicknames) on Oct. 8 inside the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo. It could be the first time Dwyane Wade and new teammates LeBron James and Chris Bosh take the court together in a real (sort of) NBA game.

It’s not guaranteed that the Thunder will get the first crack at the league’s newest superpower. The Thunder opened its preseason schedule last season on Oct. 7 at Memphis. This year, the Thunder is scheduled to take on Charlotte in Fayetteville, N.C. on Oct. 6. So it’s possible the Heat has a game scheduled prior to the Kansas City showdown.

The Heat had two preseason games before Oct. 8 last year, an Oct. 5 date at Detroit and an Oct. 7 date at Orlando. Miami, though, has announced only one other preseason date for 2010, an Oct. 22 meeting against Southeastern Division rival Orlando in Tampa, Fla.

Either way, Kevin Durant welcomed the challenge today at his news conference announcing his five-year contract extension saying, “I’m looking forward to playing those guys three times this year.”

Kansas City-area residents are certainly psyched, as the game marks James’ debut in Kansas City. According to the Kansas City Star, tickets have been on sale since March 12 but picked up only on Friday, after James announced his decision before a nationally televised audience Thursday night. More than 2,000 tickets were sold before noon Friday, the Star reported.

“Like any other Miami Heat fans, we’re excited to see ‘The Trifecta,’ ” Sprint Center director of communications and marketing Shani Tate told the Star. “It’s great news for basketball fans in Kansas City.”

If you’re an optimist.

Frankly, I feel sorry for the people who laid down their hard-earned money to catch the circus when it comes to town. Wade, James and Bosh will need the reps with each other, but I’m setting the over/under at just seven percent that “The Trifecta” actually suits up.

Place your bets.

My money is on the Thunder not getting its first shot at “Miami Thrice” until the regular season.

But, hey, there’s worse things than seeing them only twice.

You could be skipped over in Kansas City.

It’s a shame that black folk in sports always gravitate toward the idea that
they are more important than the sport itself by putting on an embarrassing
show of self gratitude. With their attitude of, it’s all about me and look how
much money I have. For everyone that has modesty, humility, and self respect,
you have TEN that act like LeBron, Tiger, etc. etc.

that’s a very racist comment to make!

there are two things that ‘judge’ hates: racism and black folk…
