Durant Profile in Sports Illustrated
In this week’s editions of Sports Illustrated, Chris Ballard profiles Kevin Durant and how the Thunder’s star has evolved into more than a gunner while leading OKC on the brink of the playoffs.
The piece offers some really good insight into Durant, his work ethic and his personality. Really worth 20 minutes of your time. You’ll learn that Durant once, after a terrible game, watched Dennis the Menace and felt better and ready to return to the gym. You’ll also find it interesting that Durant claims his defensive improvement has been aided by the addition of Ron Adams but, “Ron doesn’t teach me schemes or how to guard people. He just gets on me and makes me feel bad.”
The issue hits newsstands Wednesday.

Great article about Durant. Not particularly flattering towards Oklahoma City. Didn’t anyone take Ballard out when he was here? Reading that article, you’d think Oklahoma City smells of dogfood, has Denny’s as its only dining option and that the “converted roller rink” is the only practice facility the team will ever know. I think he must have owed Bill Simmons a favor to come up with the lead-in he did. Or maybe he lived in Seattle in his former life.
For some reason all the national writers feel a need to take a cheap-shot at OKC. The broadcast guys have move on. In time this too will pass.
This article is yet again proof that reporters like Chris Ballard are no longer receiving a travel budget and are phoning in their articles. This has to be the case based on the very facts of his article. Find the John Deere plant and I know we have an IHOP down town but where is Denney’s? When a person in this day and time see’s a factory or a plant in any town and it is operating and they can’t equal that to jobs, jobs which pay for tickets to sporting events the ignorance is overwelming ! Perhaps Ballard just called and asked for training tapes of Durant but I don’t believe he actually came to Oklahoma City , during the day or came thru Downtown Oklahoma City which newspapers such as the Sacromento B (see below for article info) feel we are worth writing about. In case Ballard has not noticed the United States and all of her citizes need all of the positive attention we can get. For a city that is doing a decent job of building up this man should be shut down. Tonni C /Spencer : Sacramento Bee about a “reverse Dust Bowl” of sorts:
