Thunder Acquires Maynor, Waives Livingston, Wilks

The Oklahoma City Thunder has acquired rookie point guard Eric Maynor in a trade with Utah, The Oklahoman has learned.

In exchange, the Thunder will send the draft rights to Peter Fehse, a 2002 second-round pick, to Utah. The deal, which is expected to be announced Tuesday night, will also bring Matt Harpring’s expiring $6.5 million contract to Oklahoma City, but the 33-year-old Harpring is out for the season after numerous ailments and surgeries deteriorated his performance.

To make room for Maynor and Harpring, the Thunder will release reserve guards Shaun Livingston and Mike Wilks.

Maynor, the 20th overall pick out of Virginia Commonwealth, is averaging 5.2 points, 3.1 assists and 1.5 rebounds in 14 minutes per game.

Why Livingston and not Ollie?

Wesley Mathews and CJ Miles playing well made Maynor very expendable. He isnt a first round talent anyway, but he will be a nice backup to Wesbrook

The only question I have is: Who’s gonna play backup PG tonight? LOL Otherwise, solid move.

Livingston, like Wilks, has a non-guaranteed contract while Ollie has a regular one, meaning if Livingston leaves, the Thunder is not required to pay him the full amount. But as for talent, Livingston is heads-and-tails above Ollie.

I would disagree, Thomas. Ollie is not going to win you any games, but he’s not going to lose them either. Ollie’s assist to turnover ratio is much better than Shaun’s. If you notice, when Livingston was in the game, Harden generally brought the ball up the court.

I think we can also thank Portland and Carlos Boozer. If the Trailblazers hadn’t offered Paul Milsap as a restricted free agent last summer – and if Boozer had not picked up the option on his contract – the Jazz wouldn’t be in a cost-cutting mode.

wow.. yet another great move by the Thunder! i love it!

Sooners fans should remember Maynor well.. in his limited time with the Jazz, he has been great.. what a perfect backup to Westbrook.. great, great move..

Although I didn’t see Ollie’s or Livingston’s A/T ratio, I saw Livingston handling the ball (not anyone else) when he was on the floor. The main problem with Shaun was he wouln’t penetrate (he passed the ball on the perimeter only, didn’t rebound, and he wouln’t shoot). Maybe it’s a mental thing (with his knee), and maybe, it might be permanent, but he has worlds of talent, especially for a PG.
