I'm back to the Blazers again. Who did they turn to when they had a young team with no experience and lot of learning to do? They went with a proven, tough guy coach in Nate McMillan who (ironically) had been very successful with the Sonics. He was given authority and he had absolute backing of management. He was the first "star" in the Portland rebirth and he leveraged that position to drive his young stars. Scotty is great, but doesn't have that kind of clout. Not getting a proven coach with "super star" cachet is a mistake.

Although Scott Brooks is better than P. J. Carlesimo, and I could be wrong, but I believe the Thunder can't win championships as long as Brooks is head coach. He is unsure of himself, always playing different rotations, even sometimes bizzare rotations, just to see how they fit with each other, instead of knowing beforehand. I thought Sam Presti didn't drop "interim" yet just to see who's available in the market. And the best head coach that is looking for a team who coaches from the same basketball philosophy as Presti is Tom Thibodeau. Read the Wikipedia entry for yourself (it's fairly short-he is a few years older than Brooks).

In 2007, Boston Celtics head coach Doc Rivers hired Thibodeau to be his assistant, and handed over his defense to him. Rivers wanted to improve it. The result was the Celtics had the best defense in the NBA, and Boston won the title. When the Celtics' season is over this year, Thibodeau will be looking for a head coaching position. Too bad the Thunder has Brooks.

i'm glad. i like the idea of a young team growing with a young coach. and from what i can tell, he seems like one of the few coaches in the nba who can "foster accountability."
