I cannot agree more on the comment of "At some point someone, whether it’s Brooks, Westbrook or Durant himself, has to realize Durant can be a game-changer. But as we’ve seen so many times this season in the fourth quarter, it’s often whatever happens, happens while Durant is standing around the perimeter placing too much faith in his coaches and teammates."
As a player and especially if you are the franchise player, you need to take over the game when it's needed. If not, then you are just somebody IMO. You need to carry the team when it's time. And definately there were a lot of time that Kevin was needed.
I think the coach has a lot of responsiblity on that... If your team has a franchise player like Durant, who can pretty much score at will, then use him because he should be the one that carry the team. Also, let's look at fg% as another example; don't tell me you want someone who has lower % to have the ball and miss than someone with better %. I don't think it works that way in math or if you want to win, but it seems like that's what the Thunder is doing.
I always scratch my head in disbelieve during the 4th quater of their games. I would say 90-95% of the time, Kevin's been hot the whole time and then they just not giving him the ball anymore afterward. I really have no idea of that... IMO, you don't get a franchise player as a poster boy, you get a franchise player to compete and win game when the game in on the line. However, I am sorry to say that I don't see that in OKC Thunder. Durant is and supposed to be the Thunder franchise player, but the team is not using him to compete but sell tickets. I am sorry to say that I don't live in OKC and I don't really care about the ticket sell, but I care about how they compete.
