Does that mean there is any truth behind it? Maybe Carlissimo is the coach he has needed?

(Audrey, I can’t honestly say for sure whether the team is going after him or not. My article was an attempt to analyze which direction the No Names could turn after losing out on CJM. Based on the type of players they’ve shown interest in this summer, J.R. fits the bill. Unfortunately, there have been some well publicized incidents involving J.R., which lead me to believe Sam Presti won’t risk going after him. Presti is big on adding high-character guys not just talented players. After covering J.R. during the Hornets’ first season in OKC, Smith’s second in the NBA, I don’t think he’s a bad guy. I do think he’s immature, perhaps too much of a risk for Presti to take a chance on with such a young roster. It’s worth noting, however, that San Antonio was close to trading Brent Barry to the Hornets for J.R. in 2005-06, but the trade fell through at the last minute. Presti was assistant GM under R.C. Buford that season. Who knows whether Presti agreed with the move then. Gregg Popovich and Buford get the final call on those things. But an interesting tidbit nonetheless that I couldn’t work into my article. -DM-)
