If I lived in Oklahoma, I'm sure I'd be rooting for the Sonics to be moved south. But I'm a SEATTLE Sonics fan -- have been since 1967. This is the third go-round the taxpayers of Seattle and King County have been put through the wringer by rich owners of professional sports teams seeking a new, publicly funded sports arena. By committing to another new sports venue, Seattle taxpayers would have footed the bill to the tune of more than $1.6 billion over a 10-year period. And that doesn't include the interest payments made over decades.

Allow us Seattleites our right to feel used and trampled. Don't confuse our outrage with apathy and disinterest in the Sonics. We've been great supporters of the team and the NBA for about as many years as Clay Bennett has been alive.

To those naive OKC'rs, I offer a warning: IF the Sonics move, get your checkbooks out -- it's gonna happen to you. Bennett told a newspaper reporter here that your own arena was "adequate" for the team. Hardly a ringing endorsement. Be prepared for his ownership team to come a callin' for another, expanded arena. And I know your current one is not old.
