Found this article today on the All About Beer Twitter feed. Living in Oklahoma, you might be surprised to find out that a Republican politician could be such a strong backer of beer legislation. But that’s just the case with Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum. According to the article, the beer lobby has poured tens of thousands of dollars into Santorum’s coffers over the years. The former senator’s home state, Pennsylvania, is home to major breweries like Rolling Rock, Yuengling and Keystone. Santorum regularly authored, sponsored or spoke publicly about legislation dealing with the beer industry. Although now that he’s trying to appeal to a broader base than his apparently beer-loving constituency, we’ll see how outspoken he is about supporting beer.
