Beer news report: Feb. 16

Here’s news making the rounds in the beer world:

-Mustang’s new Session 33 line has officially rolled out in Oklahoma City this week.  The 3.2 percent beer is available at grocery and convenience stores. You can read an earlier report on Session 33 right here. I’ll have more information on Session 33 coming up on the blog.

-Choc’s Project Hop will continue this week, with a Firkin Friday offering at McNellie’s OKC. This Friday’s offering of dry-hopped 1919 will feature Calypso hops, which are a relatively new hop variety good for bittering and aroma/flavor. Calypso hops are known to have notes of apple or pear.

-Also in McNellie’s OKC news, the pub is planning a Sam Adams beer dinner on Feb. 28. RSVP to jenny.price@mcnellies.com.

-And in case you wanted even more McNellie’s OKC news, they are taking part in something called The World’s Largest Guinness Toast at 10 p.m. on Friday and then offering Guinness for their Monday night pint night.

-Tonight is Firkin Thursday at McNellie’s Tulsa, and Marshall Brewing is up to bat. This week’s offering is a little bit of a mystery. Marshall said, and I reported, earlier that the firkin would contain an ancho chile-and-bittersweet chocolate-infused Big Jamoke Porter. On its Facebook page yesterday, Marshall said the firkin would contain a “top secret” offering. I’m investigating.
