Drive for strong beer in stores to continue

Those fighting to get strong beer and wine sold in the state’s grocery and convenience stories are not quite ready to give up. Groups in favor of such a move are expected to file a constitutional amendment petition as soon as next week. We could see a spring petition drive to acquire enough signatures to get the issue on the ballot, followed by a November 2012 vote. More details to come.

A step in the right direction, but, Oklahoma will not be able to entice brewers like Stone or Dog Fish Head without refrigerated coolers in liquor stores. If a law is passed that just states that convenient stores and grocery stores are allowed to sell above 3.2 brew, they need to allow liquor stores to sell products that have zero % alcohol. without this and refrigeration, liquor store owners will feel the pinch.

People should be able to tour and sample at local breweries too.

We have a new amateur license that allows 200 gallons of wine, beer and cider; but Oklahoma law will not allow the manufacturing of beer over 3.2%. This is an improved license, who can stand to make 3.2% beer? The professional license is restricted to 3.2% also. Like wines there are a multitude of recipes all different % alcohol. This is dictating 1 flavor of beer! Winemakers would not stand for this restriction!

Here here folks – this is a HUGE step in the right direction. Trust me, I have studied the laws at length and things like “refrigeration” are one line item changes in our states’ laws. If we can get this BIG fish in the boat, great things will follow.

Nick – how do I get myself and my (allegiance of homebrew/craft beer loving) friends involved. It’s time we bring OK in to 2012.

Cheers,
BC
