Several events on Oklahoma beer scene
The college football season kicks off in a mere six days, and so I realize that may be all you can think about at the moment. But don’t forget to turn your attention to a number of exciting beer events coming up:
-Today: McNellie’s OKC’s Firkin Friday features an offering of Flemish Saison from COOP Ale Works. This is a “dry, sessionable beer made with a Belgian saison yeast strain (hence the Flemish) instead of a French variety. It has some nice estery flavors and notes of fruits, but it is not sour or wild like some other Flemish beers,” said COOP brewmaster Blake Jarolim.
-Today: Not so much an event as it is a happening, but Mustang Brewing Co. will be featured on KFOR’s “Is this a great state or what?” segment tonight at 5 p.m.
-Saturday: McNellie’s OKC and Abner’s Ale House in Norman are holding a stein hoisting competition. Stop by to check it out or take part and see how burly you are. Personally, I’d rather drink a stein of beer than hold it in the air for as long as I can. But that’s just me.
-Thursday: Marshall Brewing is holding an Oktoberfest release party at Fassler Hall.
-Friday: The annual Choctaw Oktoberfest kicks off. The event is scheduled Sept. 2-4 and 7-10 at Choctaw Creek Park.
-Sept. 30: ZooBrew III is scheduled at the Oklahoma City Zoo. More info. at www.zoofriends.com.
-Oct. 14: The eighth annual ARTonTAP is scheduled at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art. More info. to come on the blog.
-Oct. 14: Choc is hosting another one of its beer dinners at Pete’s Place. Call (918) 423-2042 for reservations.
