If you’re going to find yourself in the DFW area the weekend of May 14, you are in luck. The inaugural North Texas Beer Festival is being planned May 13-15 in Plano. Here’s a press release I received today if you’re interested in more information:

PLANO, Texas (March 22, 2011) — Something is brewing in Plano, Texas, this spring as the city gets ready to host the inaugural North Texas Beer Festival from May 13-15.   Festival-goers can participate in the V.I.P. ExBEERience aboard the Meet & Greet Brews Cruise from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, May 13. Tickets to this one-of-a-kind, exclusive event are $119 and limited to the first 40 registrants. The ticket includes admission to the festival on Saturday, May 14, and a commemorative festival shirt and glass. Attendees will also get the opportunity to rub elbows with the brewers and brewery representatives aboard the largest catamaran in the Lone Star State! Complimentary food and beverages will be provided.

Then, join beer novices and connoisseurs from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, at the Plano Centre, located at 2000 E. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano. Entrance is $30 per person, which includes 12 2-oz. beer samples of your choice. Twelve additional samples may be purchased for $10.

Those attending the festival will learn about craft, specialty and imported beers, discovering the complexity of craft beers and recognizing its excellence in the industry. The event will feature more than 100 beers from more than 25 breweries, including Rahr and Sons Brewing Company, Samuel Adams, Guinness, Franconia Brewing Company, Boulevard Brewing Company and more. Guests can sample a variety of brews, attend home-brewing demonstrations, listen to keynote speakers, attend cooking classes, indulge in wine and gourmet foods, and much more.

Visitors can also purchase beer by the glass and enjoy live music outdoors in the relaxing Bier Garten. There will be competitions amongst the brewers in multiple categories, including a People’s Choice category, allowing festival guests to participate in the judging action!

The events culminate on Sunday, May 15, at the Top It Off Charity Golf Tournament at Top Golf, located at 1500 Allen Station Parkway in Allen. Entrance to this single-elimination tourney, which benefits the Good Samaritan Inn, is $95 per person. Participation includes entry to the hospitality suite with complimentary food and beverage. Registration begins at 2 p.m., and the tournament takes place from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
