Industry report shows continued craft beer growth
The Brewers Association today released its preliminary report on the craft beer industry in 2010. Here are some highlights from the report:
-Craft brewing volume increased 11 percent over 2009 numbers
-Craft beer retail sales jumped 12 percent over 2009
-There were 1,759 operating U.S. breweries in 2010, the highest number since the year 1900
-Three percent of craft brewer barrels, by volume, are distributed in cans, confirming a growing trend
The report shows craft beer continues to be a positive force in the overall beer industry, and with more than 600 breweries in the planning stages, the trend figures to continue.
