Welcome to the Beer Championship Series Sweet 16!

ttbbcsLadies and gentlemen, beer fans from around the world, welcome to the Beer Championship Series Sweet 16! After several days of voting, we’ve narrowed our field of 64 beers down to a mere 16 survivors. These beers are no longer hanging around on the perimeter; thanks to the wonders of technology — as in Internet voting — these brews have now moved to the center of the beer world. Before we get to the voting, let’s take a look at Wednesday’s results:

Oklahoma Region: Mustang Golden Ale - 59 percent vs. COOP Gran Sport Porter - 41 percent

International Region: Sapporo- 62 percent vs. Moosehead - 38 percent

USA Region: Shiner Bock- 56 percent vs. Leinenkugel Summer Shandy - 44 percent

Europe Region: Pilsner Urquell - 57 percent vs. St. Pauli Girl - 43 percent

Oklahoma Region: Marshall McNellie’s Pub Ale - 58 percent vs. Marshall Atlas IPA - 42 percent

International Region: Molson Canadian - 52 percent vs. Taj Mahal Lager - 48 percent

USA Region: Anchor Steam – 54 percent vs. Boulevard Wheat - 46 percent

Europe Region: Newcastle Brown Ale- 67 percent vs. Moretti - 33 percent

 Here is the updated bracket.

And now, it’s your vote to decide who goes to the Elite Eight!

Great BCS, but I have one comment, how does Mustang qualify for a “Oklahoma Beer” when it isn’t even made or bottled in Oklahoma?

I am wondering the same thing as CS…if it wins compared to DNR…something is very wrong.

Im glad Mustang is holding its own. Its good to see a new beer doing so well!! The fans seem to enjoy a beer that goes down easy.

I don’t think anyone is challenging the validity of it’s taste but more of it’s placement in the bracket. It has been fun don’t get me wrong. Truly a beer aficionado would see that you don’t compare say a Belgian to a Lager or an Ale to an IPA, but that isn’t the point of the bracket. So by region makes sense and I concede, but to put a beer bottled in Missouri against one brewed here in OKC in a category of Oklahoma Beer is just not making sense. Anyhow it is fun to watch. Thanks for posting it out for us.

I’ve been told that Mustang has been sending out mass e-mails telling people to vote for the “regular” brew they contract brew elsewhere. Not sure how fair that is…Golden Ale isn’t awful…it is just another non-descript brew that isn’t brewed in Oklahoma.

Its bs that mustang is beating coop. unless you have a server farm of ips hitting votes, or you have some email spam thing going on, it is vote fraud of some sort. i know its a psuedo meaningless poll but i think that any publicity not earned honestly is just all out wrong.

Lots of non-descript brews about…if being good was required the big boys would not be doing what they do with their rice brew….

I think what is bogus is the category in which it was placed. It isn’t an Oklahoma Brew!

Okay…now the whole thing is bogus regarding Mustang. They don’t brew in Oklahoma and they have to get votes illegally…
I got 4 emails telling me to vote on Golden ale…
Sorry…something just isn’t right here.

Wow! Everyone take a deep breath. I agree if the category for Oklahoma is only beers that are brewed there, then yes Mustang would not be in that category I agree. Mustang is a company based in Oklahoma and pays all of its taxes to Oklahoma. That makes it an Oklahoma company. So it depends on who wrote the category and it is up to them to decide. It looks like they were considering the fact that the company is an Oklahoma company and that why they even put it on the list. So it’s on the list and the people have voted, you can’t go back in time and take it off of the list. People, who got their feelings hurt because their favorite beer got out voted, live with it. It’s a poll for fun. Life goes on. If it really means that much to you then work next year to let all your friends know about the poll and vote. On the cheating comment, of course Mustang is going to send emails out to its fans to let them know to vote. To be honest I did not even know about the poll until I got an email informing me that it was there and I could vote. That brings more people into vote and creates interest in the Thirsty Beagle. The poll can tell who is cheating and that’s The truth. Next year take it of the Oklahoma category and put it somewhere else, but why cry about the past?

Says the man from Schlafly….re:the truth

How exactly are they getting votes illegally? Really, isn’t this supposed to be in fun? People are taking this way to seriously. If Mustang is Oklahoma owned and operated, then it is an Oklahoma beer. Someone is very bitter about losing.

Hey, Nick. Why don’t you let everyone know who is getting illegal votes or if they are cheating.

I’m not bitter about losing and I make the stuff. Mustang is a solid session beer.

I agree Mustang is a fine session beer, sorry wasn’t trying to stir the pot. To think that just a year ago we had only two “Oklahoma Beer makers” and now we have these great offerings is a wonderful thing in my opinion. I look forward to many more coming from all of our beer makers here in this state.
