Now on twitter: The Thirsty Beagle

It’s hard to go ahead and make a proclamation like “The Thirsty Beagle has now entered the digital world” when you’re already writing a blog. I mean, a blog is pretty digital already. But I think we can all agree it’s like early 2008 digital. Seeing as how we’re now mid-way through 2009, I think it’s safe to say The Thirsty Beagle has now entered the digital world. That’s right, TTB is now on twitter. Just follow www.twitter.com/thirstybeagle to get updates on blog postings and other TTB tidbits. Cheers!

TTB returns from cold, inhospitable land

The Thirsty Beagle is back in Oklahoma today, fresh off a road trip to my home town in the True North Strong and Free. A great variety of beer was enjoyed. More on that in a later post. I will say this: Every time I go home to Toronto, I end up freezing my backside off.  I am fully acclimated to Oklahoma weather; I’ve been here in the state since 1999. So I’m not used to July temperatures in the 60s and 70s. Every time I go up there in the middle of the summer and temperatures are in the 60s and 70s, everyone tells me they’re going through an unusual cold streak. I’m beginning to think it’s always in the 60s and 70s in July and everyone up there is full of it. Either way, I have to say I’m not really that upset about returning to Oklahoma for temps in the 90s and even 100s. Although I reserve the right to feel differently in three or four days. Moving on, when TTB returned to his home — his lawn fairly out of control and his plants mostly parched – much to his great surprise he found a case of beer on his front porch. Yes sir, the Beagle is now a proud two-month member of the Beer of the Month Club. A good friend of mine signed me up as a birthday present. Between unloading the car and trying to catch up on a variety of tasks around the house, I’ve not yet had a chance to thoroughly inspect the beer, but I can say the 24 bottles come with a newsletter talking about the beer included. So I’ll have an update and perhaps a mini ranking coming up soon. In other beer news, I had an e-mail from Tim Schoelen at Mustang Brewing Co. waiting for me when I got back to work. Tim wanted to remind everyone that Mustang Golden Ale Pint Night at McNellie’s kicks off at 5 p.m. Monday, July 13. Also, the brewery’s Web site — www.mustangbrewing.com — is now up and running. And you can buy Mustang Brewing Co. merchandise and apparel at the Web site’s “Buy Gear” link.

Camping and beer: One more reason they’re great together

So you’re off on a weekend camping trip, but you’ve forgotten to pack a pot to boil your dinner. Never fear, so long as you brought along that 48-pack of Natural Light, you’ll be in good shape. OK, so you won’t really need 48 cans, and it doesn’t necessarily have to be Natty Light, but check out this video; real evidence of the improvisational powers of beer!
