VOTE! Round 2 of the Beer Championship Series

ttbbcsWelcome one and all to the second round of The Thirsty Beagle Beer Championship Series. Before we get to the work of voting for Oklahoma’s favorite beer, I thought I’d provide a little back story to get everyone up to speed. I came up with the idea for the Beer Championship Series because of my disdain for another system that goes by the initials BCS. Since I started The Thirsty Beagle in September, I have from time to time taken to criticizing the football BCS. I mean, is college football really no better than figure skating, where judges – coaches, administrators, former players – decide who wins and who loses in the end? Or even worse, who even gets the chance to lose in the end? I figured if college football wasn’t going to have a bracket-style playoff, I was. And so you have the 64-beer bracket to pick Oklahoma’s favorite beer. The playoff started last week and continues today with the original 64 brews lopped in half. By the end of day Thursday, we’ll have our Sweet 16, and on Friday, the Elite Eight will be set. And all based on your votes, which you can submit in the comments section or by e-mailing thethirstybeagle@yahoo.com. So, without further delay, here are today’s match-ups:

Oklahoma Region: Choc 1919 (Krebs) vs. Bison American Wheat (Bricktown Brewery); and Miner Mishap (Krebs) vs. Rock Island Rail Ale (Bricktown Brewery).

International Region: Fosters (Australia) vs. Labatt Blue (Canada); and Sapporo (Japan) vs. James Boag (Australia).

USA Region: Bud Light (St. Louis) vs. Leinenkugel Original (Wisconsin); and Blue Moon (Colorado) vs. Miller Light (Milwaukee).

Europe Region: Chimay Red Ale (Belgium) vs. Amstel (Holland); and Guinness (Ireland) vs. Bass (England).

Voting will close at 9 p.m. central time. Don’t forget to check back each day this week to see who wins and get the next set of match-ups. Cheers!

How can Guinness and Bass meet in the second round?
Without both in the bracket, how will I have a black and tan?
That’s like Duke playing North Carolina.
It’s a travesty that one of the two beer powers will be left out while either a Blue Moon or Miller Lite will be left.

Here’s my vote:
Choc
Miner
Labatt
Sapporo
Leinenkugel Original
Blue Moon
Amstel
And with time running out on the clock, Guinness by a sip over Bass.
