Steve Barrymore is the former National Advertising Manager for The Oklahoman and has a love for travel that sometimes takes him off the beaten path.

He has been studying Spanish for several years and has traveled to different language schools scattered throughout Mexico and Central and South America. He has an interest in Latin culture and history. He enjoys visiting Mayan ruins during his travels.

steve2.jpgHis study of Spanish in foreign countries has led to many unpredictable experiences with some more challenging than others. His studies in Spanish schools in Latin America always include living with a local family where no English is spoken. His family stays for the most part have been widely diverse. He has stayed in homes with 6 bathrooms and has also shared one bathroom with (6) six people. Each journey has been a different twist in the road but have all been positive. Steve always tries to participate in the local culture and tradition. He has eaten termites in Costa Rica, guinea pig in Ecuador, and ground worms in Mexico.

Steve also has an affinity for the Caribbean– always searching for the perfect beach. His favorite island getaway is Anguilla. His favorite island airport landingsteve1.jpg has been on the tiny Dutch island of Saba and his favorite airport is in San Juan, Puerto Rico where the departure screens are always filled with flights to the many different islands in the Caribbean.

Steve enjoys long airplane flights as evidenced by a weekend trip that he once made to Taipei, Taiwan just to see how much of the city could possibly be seen with only 18 hours on the ground.

His favorite travel slogan is “It’s all about the journey”
