I can has adopted?

It’s hard for me to even contain how excited I am by a new partnership between one of the Petshow blogs’ favorite time wasters, icanhascheezburger.com, and Petfinder.com, a Web site that helps people find shelter pets to adopt.

The two are teaming up to help find homes for shelter kitties as part of Adopt-A-Shelter-Cat Month. For the next two weeks, visitors to Petfinder.com can add lolcat-style captions to photos of various kittehs on the site. The most popular photos and captions will be featured on icanhascheezburger.com each day.

Organizers behind the two sites hope the additional attention generated by the contest will help many lolsheltercats find homes. We at the Petshow blog wish them luck.

Free dog treats!

power-of-paws-giveaway-lo-res.jpgPet Show is ready to celebrate the holidays! We’re having a photo contest through New Years’ Day! Here’s the deal -

* Email holiday pictures of your pet to ccoppernoll@opubco.com this month. We need the pet’s name, your name, your address, your phone number and a description of what your pet is doing, if that’s possible.

* Every person who enters at least one photo will be put in the drawing for this amazing prize pack! The bags, shown, here are packed full of great treats from brands like Milk Bone, Pup Peroni, Wholesome Medley and Meow Mix. (Thanks to the great folks at Del Monte for providing the prize pack!)

* Only one entry per person, but you can submit any many pictures as you want!

* The deadline for entry is noon Jan. 1.

* The Pet Show crew will draw the name of the winner at random Jan. 2.

* The odds of winning depend on the number of entries. The odds of receiving unconditional love from your pet this holiday season: 100 percent.

* We’ll post the best photos on our blog right after we draw the winner.

* Good luck!

 So, where did this all come from? The crew over at Del Monte are having a special fundraiser that helps pets in need. They’re donating $1 for every person who tells them why his/her pet is great. Really? Yes. All you have to do is go to their site, Power of Paws, and talk about how great your pet is. We all know how easy that is to do. So far, more than 5,000 people have done it. That’s a $5,000 donation just for bragging. So go add your story to the pile!

Stop decorating your animals

Why do people insist on doing things like this to their dogs? This is from the Sandy Paws Grooming Shop’s Creative Grooming Awards.

At right, you will notice a poodle groomed to look like Leonardo from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I am surprised this dog is willing to wear a bandana across its eyes, and I can’t imagine it is comfortable.

Below, you will find video of some guy tattooing pigs. Why?

It should be said that this kind of thing is illegal in Oklahoma City. As I discovered a couple of years ago during a fish tattooing controversy, artificially coloring your dog’s fur is against the law. This was primarily because of the practice of dyeing rabbits around Easter, but applies to dogs as well. Tattooing fish or pigs or any other pet is also illegal. Is there anything wrong with a poodle looking like a poodle? Does a pig really need a tat to look interesting?

I think not.

Travel contest deadline looms!

pet-seat-cover5.jpgThe holiday season looms like your cat’s next trip to the vet – you know it’s coming and there’s nothing you can do to stop it. And holidays mean holiday travel to visit loved ones near and far. So, Pet Show wants to celebrate! Send us your favorite pictures of your pet on vacation or on the road, and you’ll be entered in our Holiday Travel Contest! The prize: some super-snazzy car travel gear!The fabulous folks at CoverKing have given us this awesome Pet Protector Seat Cover. How does it work? You hang it over your back seat and not only does it keep your pet from falling into the floorboard every time you tap the breaks, but it also keeps pet hair off your upholstery! Well, in my car, that would be pet hair, pet smell, pet sneezes and other pet yuckies. Retail value: $50! Your entry: free! Here are the rules:

* Email pictures of your pets to ccoppernoll@opubco.com. The pictures can be anything related to travel – in the car, on vacation, on a hike, visiting a friend’s house, whatever! We need the pet’s name, your name, your address, your phone number and the kind of animal your loveable friend is. (And we’d also like a description of what your pet is doing, if that’s possible. )

* Every person who enters at least one photo will be put in the drawing for the rockin’ CoverKing Pet Protector Seat Cover! (Thanks to CoverKing for providing the prize!)

* Only one entry per person, but you can submit any many pictures as you want!

* The deadline for entry is noon Nov. 21.

* The Pet Show crew will draw the name of the winner at random after noon Nov. 21, just in time to get you your CoverKing before you head out for Thanksgiving vacation!

* The odds of winning depend on the number of entries. The odds of fun while traveling with your pet: 100 percent.

* What happens if you don’t win? Don’t worry! We’ll take all the photos submitted and make a slide show of everyone’s fantastic travel pics. We’ll post it right after we draw the winner.

* Good luck!
