OKC Zoo loses staff member

randy-embryThe tram driver at the Oklahoma City Zoo died Monday. Randall “Randy” Embry was 46.

Embry worked as the Centennial Choo Choo and Safari Tram supervisor and a trainer in the zoo’s visitor services department.

“When driving the tram, Randy’s knowledge of the zoo’s plants and animals was evident in his passion and enthusiasm,” Executive Director Dwight Scott said in a statement. “He was energetic, kind and respected by his peers. The zoo team will miss Randy and our thoughts are with his family.”

Embry worked at the zoo for more than a year and was also active with zoo staff. He participated for the first time on a zoo team that ran in the Oklahoma Memorial Marathon this spring.

Services will be 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Southwest Freewill Baptist Church, 925 SW 60 in Oklahoma City. Internment will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens, 500 SW 104 in Oklahoma City.
