Painted bunting perches in Oklahoma City
Conna Wilkinson of Oklahoma City sent us this neat picture of a painted bunting. “Though painted buntings are relatively unusual in this part of the state,” Conna said. “there are 3 pair of them nesting on my property this summer.”

I noticed two male painted buntings at my backyard bird feeder. They stayed for about an hour and didn’t seem to mind each other, which surprised me. Now that this unusual cold weather has hit, I hope that they stay around my home. I live in a wooded area which is north of Ames, OK in NW Oklahoma.

After a strong thunderstorm in NE Oklahoma City, I noticed a beautifully colored bird on my feeder. Having never seen this bird before, I looked it up in my Audubon field guide and it turns out to be a painted bunting!! I was so excited and thought I would not see it again. This afternoon it reappeared and I was able to take a few pictures of it. What can I expect next?
