Nice outfit, Mademoiselle Boo
In case you wanted to keep up with the latest pet fashions, check out the Best Dressed Dogs of 2008, a list put out by the ASPCA.
You’ve got warm winter hats, hilarious Halloween get-ups and even New York metro cards stapled to shirts. This picture here shows Missy Boo, who apparently enjoys wearing French attire. Tres chic! Or something.

In Florida, it’s illegal to save your pets from a burning house
OK, it’s not exactly illegal to save your pets from a burning house. But it can get you arrested if you’re in Florida.
Henry Morgan’s house was on fire, and he tried to go back in to save his wife, relatives and pets Firefighters stopped him. He tried again, and they stopped him again. After this back-and-forth hubbub went on and on, everyone got hot, so to speak. Morgan got mad, and so did the firefighters. The firemen apparently had to stop fighting the fire to keep Morgan (shown here) out of the burning building. Eventually, they just arrested him.
I can see both sides of this one. If your Morgan, you want to do everything you can to make sure your pets survive. If your the firemen, you want to do everything you can to make sure everyone survives, even the guy climbing in the window of his burning house.
So I’m with them on arresting him. It was for his own protection. But charging him with several crimes? Really? Totally unnecessary. They lost five cats and four dogs. Thankfully, all his relatives survived.
The man lost everything he owns, including nine pets. Don’t add insult to injury.

Fall pups
Courtney Fincher of Norman sent us this cute photo of her pup, Pearl. The schnauzer spent her Thanksgiving Day playing in the leaves.

Dog Bites Accused Dog Fighter
In a case of possible payback, a police dog in Ohio bit a man accused of dog fighting.
Police officers in Dayton, Ohio, said a police dog helped apprehend a man wanted on dogfighting charges when the 31-year-old man fled on foot as officers tried to arrest him. The dog grabbed the man by the wrist and prohibited him from running.
The man was treated for bites on his hand and taken to jail.
I know the dog was only doing what the handler asked, but maybe it’s OK to think he stood up for his canine buddies.

You’ll miss us when we’re gone
Yeah, we know you will. It’s OK to admit it.
The Pet Show blog, along with all of the NewsOK.com blogs, will be missing in action some time today and possibly Friday. We’re getting a fancy pants new look! But we know this is how you feel:

“Oh no!” you gasp. “What will I do for my pet news?”
Never fear. For now, tide yourself over with the pets search on NewsOK.com. We know, we know. It’s not the same. In fact, it’s not even remotely close to the same as the awesomeness of the Pet Show blog. But these are tough times, people!
The good news is that we’ll be good as new – or maybe even BETTER than new – when we’re back!

Michael Vick loses again
Michael Vick has pleaded guilty to state dogfighting charges. He got a three-year suspended sentence plus unsupervised probation. As if we all hadn’t heard enough about the horrors of Bad Newz Kennels, new information came to light recently in light of his state trial. Vick would laugh – laugh – when he put regular house pet dogs in the ring with his fighting dogs.

Dogs heart turkey
In case you were wondering, yes, you can give your dog turkey.
The experts at the ASPCA say it’s OK to give your pup a few small bites of turkey. A bit of mashed potoates are OK, too. Pumpkin pie is also all right as long as you don’t sweeten it with xylitol. (Odds are, you aren’t using xylitol sweetener when it comes to pie, but just in case …)
Green bean cassarole should probably stay on the table, though, if you’re using onions. And steer clear of garlic, too. Chocolate: we all know about that. Don’t share raw batters, and especially keep raw dough away. (It can actually rise inside your dog’s stomach. Yes. Really.)
But there’s nothing wrong with sharing some of your Thanksgiving feast with a four-legged family member you’re thankful for. Just don’t give too much.
