Digital Countdown Clocks Reset in North Carolina
The television viewing public in the Wilmington, N.C., area is going cold turkey on analog TV broadcasts in early September, more than five months before the rest of us.
That means their local TV stations are all pulling the plug on analog broadcasts as of Sept. 8, according to the Federal Communications Commission. In fact, the FCC described it as a “digital transition test.”
So, if the folks who live in Wilmington or some nearby community like Mayberry haven’t replaced their old analog sets with a digital-capable model, hooked up to cable TV or obtained a digital converter by then, they will no longer be able to feed their TV viewing habit.
The rest of us have until Feb. 17, 2009, to get our television affairs in order. It you want more information on the digital transition, click here.
The (analog) end truly is near.
