‘Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show’ launches model search

  victoria's secret
CBS has already scheduled “The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show” for 2009. The event will air at 9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1.
But Victoria’s Secret representatives are still searching for the next Runway Angel to appear on the telecast with supermodels Alessandra Ambrosio, Miranda Kerr, Doutzen Kroes, Marisa Miller and others.
Open casting calls will be held in New York City (Oct. 3), Miami (Oct. 10), Los Angeles (Oct. 17) and Chicago (Oct. 24). Or models can apply online at www.VSAIIAccess.com from now until Oct. 24.
A Victoria’s Secret panel of experts will narrow the field to 10 finalists, who will be flown to New York City for “Angel Boot Camp.” A series of challenges will give the contestants the chance to prove that they have what it takes to be the next Runway Angel.
And everyone will have the opportunity to view live footage from the boot camp and cast votes to choose the winner. Starting Oct. 14, weekly webisdoes featuring footage from the live castings can be viewed at www.CBS.com.
The public will ultimately choose the winner, who will get the chance of a lifetime to walk in “The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show,” which helped launch the careers of Tyra Banks, Heidi Klum and Gisele Bündchen.
CBS has been broadcasting the show annually since 2002, and the seventh annual telecast in December will be seen in more than 90 countries.

Help Fox find the next great animated holiday TV special

FOX_st3_compage_right copy   What’s your favorite animated holiday special? “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” and “Frosty the Snowman” are bound to be on a lot of people’s lists.
But what about “The Von Vamps” and “That Snow Family”? Never heard of them? Well, those two animated shorts are in the running for the Fox-Aniboom Holiday Animation Challenge that will result in a Fox development deal for at least one new holiday cartoon.
And viewers’ votes will help Fox pick a finalist for the competition from the 519 submissions received earlier this year.
To help Fox find the next great animated holiday TV special, go to www.aniboom.com/fox and check out the animated shorts that celebrate holidays ranging from Halloween and Christmas to Earth Day and Groundhog Day.
Votes will be accepted through Wednesday, Sept. 30. Fox will reveal the five finalists (who receive $5,000 each) in early November and announce the winner (who gets an additional $10,000 and a development deal) on or about Nov. 17.

Help the Smithsonian Channel with the Hope Diamond

hope   The Hope Diamond needs a makeover, and the Smithsonian Channel needs help with the design.
Actually, the House of Harry Winston has submitted three possible designs in honor of the 50th anniversary of the diamond’s donation to the Smithsonian Institution National Museum of Natural History. But the American public can vote on the new setting for the stunning 45.52-carat blue diamond.
Go to www.smithsonianchannel.com/site/smithsonian/hope.html to pick one of the new settings. Voting ends Sept. 7.
The Hope Diamond will be put on display in its new setting at the National Museum of Natural History, and the Smithsonian Channel (channel 267 on Direct TV, 374 on Dish Network) will document the event with a new special, “Mystery of the Hope Diamond,” scheduled to premiere in March.
The Hope Diamond will be returned to its permanent setting before the close of 2010.
Jeweler Harry Winston, by the way, bought the Hope Diamond from the estate of American socialite Evalyn Walsh McLean in 1949. He donated it to the Smithsonian Institution on November 10, 1958, sending it through the U.S. postal service in a plain brown paper bag.

Animal Planet’s ‘Hero of the Year’ search under way

 animal-planet-logo2

Aninal advocates are in demand at Animal Planet. So much so that just nominating one will automatically enter you to win a $50 PetSmart gift card.
So think about someone who demonstrates an extraordinary effort in support of animals in your community (The Oklahoman’s Carrie Coppernoll comes to mind), and scribble a few words (250 or less) about what they do.
“Hero of the Year” nominations will be accepted online at www.AnimalPlanet.com through June 28. By nominating a friend or family member for the honor, the nominator is entered into a daily drawing for a $50 PetSmart gift card.
A panel of judges will select 10 finalists for “Hero of the Year,” and viewers will be asked to vote for their favorite from Sept. 14-27.
The winner will be recognized on-air and will receive a trip for two to a destination that supports their animal welfare passion. Additionally, Animal Planet will donate $10,000 to the recipient’s favorite animal-related charity.

“ER” episode synopsis

“I Feel Good” (9 p.m. March 26)
Many of the ER doctors and nurses help out at Camp Del Corazon, a camp for kids who have had open heart surgery. Working along side the camp counselor (guest star Tom Arnold, “The Replacements”), Morris (Scott Grimes) and Brenner (David Lyons) make a huge impact on several kids at the camp. Meanwhile, Dr. Banfield (Angela Bassett) and her husband (guest star Courtney B. Vance, “Law & Order: Criminal Intent”) feel their adoption dreams slipping away when a young mother comes back for the child she abandoned in the ER. Parminder Nagra, John Stamos and Linda Cardellini also star.

“And In the End …” (8 p.m. April 2, replat at 7 p.m. April 4)
Gates (John Stamos) works on a young teen brought in with alcohol poisoning after playing a deadly drinking game with friends. Dr. Carter (guest star Noah Wyle) opens a new medical facility for the underprivileged in Chicago and some old friends from County General all come to show their support. It’s Sam’s (Linda Cardellini) birthday and Alex (Dominic Janes) and Gates surprise her with a special gift. Meanwhile, Carter works with an intern to save a mother in labor with twins. Parminder Nagra, Scott Grimes, David Lyons and Angela Bassett also star. Many “ER” alums return, as well. Guest stars also include Alexis Bledel (“Gilmore Girls”) and Ernest Borgnine (“From Here to Eternity”).
